Chairman’s Report
The Chairman reported the following:-
It has been quite a quiet year. Keeping costs to a minimum and the precept down as far as possible has been key to the year. However we have to recognise rising administration costs. Grants have been restricted to the litter pick.
Thanks to Cllr Sweny the Village Leaflet has been dusted down and is available from the clerk but with little changes.
Cllr Norgrove has done a superb job keeping on top of highways issues but it is a thankless task. She manages to task Cllrs Westley and Bunney for help. We must also thank her husband David for keeping our speed monitor usefully located.
We did have an issue mid-year with overgrown hedges on Moor Road. That has now been sorted out with the house owner who has been very helpful.
We took a complaint from residents about speeding tractors through the village. We wrote to the local farmers but it is difficult to identify which farmers vehicles are involved. The problem of large vehicles coming through the village will not be resolve until we get a weight limit imposed.
We had to have the Dog Poo bin at the bottom of Hall Drive as it was relocated too close to the bench. We are currently renegotiating an alternative site.
Finally I wish to thank the clerk and my fellow councillors for their help with all the other issues that arise.
3.Responsible Financial Officer Report:
The RFO presented the accounts as at 31 March 2025. Reserves to be carried forward are £5357.02.
4. Open Meeting:
A parishioner was concerned that the parish council supported very little village projects, events and interests. The parish council had a carry forward of £5357 and the parishioner considered this should be used on village projects. In particular the parish council had refused to pay for the materials for a path to the church. The Chairman explained that the parish council was obliged to retain contingency funds. In order to keep financial pressure off villagers the parish council had resolved to keep the precept request down. There are a number of organisations in the village which have sufficient funds for themselves and the parish council is trying to restrict grants to those bodies that do not have funds. A comment was made about the lawn mower at the old church and the chairman responded.
The parishioner had asked for a litter bin near the bench as litter is strewn near the track to the old church. The chairman thought that was fine.
It was raised that the new dog litter bin did not have signage to state is was for dog litter. Cllr Thurman would chase up the signage.
The meeting closed at 7.30lpm
